| It is ironic that Cllr Grimston finds himself forced to use the example of presenting "bleeding chunks" from classical music as a justification for his proposals. As for his example of Siegfried, it is common knowledge that Wagner felt obliged to write two preceding music-dramas to explain the story in Siegfried and a fourth music-drama to bring it to a comprehensive conclusion, That is why most opera houses present The Ring as a complete cycle - the complete story in a single place. His problem is that the Museum's collection is not a work of art, conceived by a single person, from which you can extract suitable sections for presentation in isolation. It is a growing and evolving assembly of sometimes unrelated artefacts that need to be interpreted and shown together for their overall relevance, inter-relationship and context to be evident and appreciated. But this has been said often and clearly enough for Cllr Grimston to realise that his arguments have no merit, no substance and no value. |
