| Malcolm - Thank you for putting the 'official' side of things. Following up on Lucille's point, where is the best place to access and list of new developments for the borough please? Martin - I'd second you, Sir, on the 100 quid donation to a 'Friends of Wandsworth Museum'. Caroline - A splendid idea to consider moving the museum to West Hill and, in combination with the De Morgan treasures, creating a 'real' cultural centre. A combined facility would provide us with a unique perspective on our own local history from Saxon times to the present and a centre for the fine and decorative Victorian arts, Islamic art, plus insight into the thinking of two extraordinarily talented Victorians with interests including pacifism, female suffrage and spiritualism (issues just as relevant today as they were in the De Morgan era). Furthermore, perhaps the children's section in West Hill library could be converted to the mooted museum cafe? I'd volunteer to put in some hours on a Saturday serving coffee and I'm sure others would too (assuming red tape didn't put a damper on things). Perhaps it's wishful thinking but I can't help believing a combined museum, De Morgan Centre and cafe would increase the number of people visiting these cultural gems over and above the current figures. Such a move could be a political coup too. Just think of all those plaudits in the broadsheet Art & Culture sections! It might also make a nice break from the litany of rapes, robberies, murders and dodgy 'cultural' events reported on the local TV news. |
