| My family have been connected with Putney since the mid 1800s and I am most concerned at the proposed closure of Wandsworth Museum. Whilst most residents would see the immediate loss of a museum facility, the much more insidious loss could be of the artefacts, records and other archives so carefully gathered over the last 20 years. Some items could be irreplacable if disposed of or allowed to deteriorate in some totally unsuitable repository (if kept at all!). Every local museum is not just a facility for immediate residents but is part of a national heritage archive. Like so many of London's "villages" Wandsworth and Putney have tremendous histories and as such are part of the wider whole. We should not allow it to disappear lightly. |
