| I think saying "I don't mind paying a little bit more Council Tax" is really a way of saying that there can be an alternative to constantly cutting services and amenities and that some Council Tax payers might be prepared to pay a bit more to preserve some of these things. Hypothecating a few pence of the CT for a specific project is not usually possible (or desirable) but WBC has made such a virtue of keeping the CT low that there is always a danger that that objective takes precedence over the maintaining of acceptable levels of public services. We need to make our views known and the Council needs to listen. Especially to amenity societies such as the Putney Society which does so much good in keeping the Council on its toes. |
