| Malcolm, your views fail to adress the following problems should the Council carry out its proposals: 10,000 artefacts, many of which donated and/or paid for by Wandsworth residents, are to be dispersed: this entails issues of security and preservation if they are no longer kept together under one roof, as well as the loss of experienced staff to explain their relevance to visitors. 'In general' = people didn't know of your plans to axe the Museum and BAC, the loss of the unique De Morgan Centre and two libraries (to be replaced by a £1m state of the art Wandsworth town centre library)when the question was asked about levels of taxation with regard to cultural activities. They may not want to increase the cultural activities of the Borough but they sure as hell don't want to lose the ones they've got. This decision is one being made in haste. There are alternatives if you would only allow the time and opportunity for them to be explored. |
