| Mr Hime - your interest in saving the Museum is much appreciated and I can understand why you believe it should be possible to raise promises of sponsorship "in principle". Reality dictates otherwise. To give you just one example - we have spoken at a senior level with a coffee house franchise. They would love to be associated with the Museum, but only if they know the location, the space they can have, whether the collection will be maintained intact and the size and quality of staff available to run and develop the Museum. They are not prepared to talk to us unless these are certain and as you know, each of these elements is in serious doubt. On the other side of the coin, if you are speaking regularly to Cllr Grimston, please ask him why the Museum cannot receive equal and similar treatment to the Battersea Arts Centre where, instead of sharply removing all funding, it seems the Council is prepared to provide at least 12 months grace for BAC to find additional funding and put in place a trust. The BAC is better placed to do this as they already receive the bulk of their income from sources other than the Council. In the case of the Museum, we have no such platform and have to start from scratch. |
