| Malcolm, as I understand it representatives of the Wandsworth Museum Campaign Group who have met with you and Councillor Lister have been 'respectful, positive, professional' as you put it. What is frustrating when you compare the BAC campaign with that of the Museum is that they are not on a level playing field and never have been. Campaigners for the Museum are keen to raise private funds for it and to mobilise volunteers as you are well aware. What they cannot do is move it from 100% Council funding to 100% private funding within the space of a few months. In my view, shared by others, the Council's determination until now to make the Museum homeless in September (because of the allegedly 'urgent' need to re-use the Court House) makes it impossible even to begin to raise private funding. The Council's present policy is actively obstructing any new arrangement for funding the Museum. I fail to understand how you, who purports to be a supporter of the arts, fails to understand that the policy is misguided and the Council should now be working with the many supporters of the Museum, from all walks of life, to find a workable and positive future for the Wandsworth Museum, of which until recently the Council was so proud. |
