| My objection to the government is that it has persistently changed the basis on which it does its calculations for grant distribution in order to favour northern authorities - for example, refusing to recognise that high levels of non-English speakers push up council costs in providing translation services, education etc - then pretends that the real-terms cuts faced in London and the south aren't so bad because they are 'damped'. The fact remains that Wandsworth and indeed London folk are paying higher and higher income taxes, pension taxes and all the other new stealth taxes but are getting less and less of it back in central government support. |
