| Re financial management, fortunately it is not necessary to take the council's word for things because it is less than two months since the Audit Commission published its latest 'Use of resources' report. Out of 150 'upper tier' local authorities, Wandsworth was one of only four to get top marks on at least four out of five categories (financial reporting, financial management, financial standing, internal control and value for money). Wandsworth scored 3 for 'financial reporting' (3 meaning 'consistently above minimum standards - performing well') and 4 for each of the others ('well above minimum standards - performing strongly') - including of course 'financial management'. The overall rating, like last year, was '4'. Wandsworth merited a special mention (para 3) for the quality of its use of resources. I am sure John will wish to join me in congratulating council officers, and indeed my colleague Councillor Heaster, for this achievement. http://www.audit-commission.gov.uk/cpa/stcc/downloads/CPAUseOfResources2007.pdf |
