| Adrian I visited the Foundling Museum after seeing the Hogarth Exibit. He helped to support the Foundling home financially and with paintings. To visit is a very moving experience, and I hope your grandad enjoyed the experience. On leaving girls went into service - carefully chosen homes, and the boys were found positions as apprentices, as did a lot of young men in those days. I am researching the ancestry of a family who moved south from Lancashire to Fulham and Barnes in the 1850's and who took foundlings into their home. Jenni, there is a wealth of fascinating information in museums, and libraries. Collections that are dispersed are hardly ever bought together again. We mustn't lose the museum. |
