| Really, Malcolm, so others outside of London do not pay these income taxes, the lowest direct levels of taxation in Europe. So London is not the high roller capital of Europe, now outdoing Monte etc, precisely because the tax levels are so low. No, Malcolm, you are not so ignorant. As for Government changing the base: if I may remind you that you put me right, with some justice, in saying that the Government has not changed the basis of local taxation since 1997 and that it is a bit much blaming the Tories of two decades back for doing it twice in 5 years. Just to remind you of your reminder! The real problem is not just that the poorest of London's residents, and there are plenty of them, find Council Tax a burden but that the imbalance of wealth, jobs, opportunities, etc., in this country between the south and north is dangerous to the future health of London as well as to the north. |
