| Malcolm Thank you. There is one point where I think we have a fundamental divide here, and that lies in your assertion: "Exciting enhancement of cultural activity (as understood by most residents)". Each side has been through this one several times, and there does not appear to be a meeting of minds - and indeed there is little if any evidence on this thread of anyone being of the same mind as your "most residents". So let us approach the problem by way of analogy, which may or may not be misleading, but here we go. Suppose the Council operated a medium sized theatre, with five actors, and an annual audience of 30,000, and growing fast. The theatre had a small cafe to provide interval refreshments, etc.. Suddenly the prospect of a future [but not immediate]budgetary crisis loomed. The Council decided that it should close the theatre forthwith, and disperse the five actors, one to each of the local cafes and restaurants, to provide distinctly different [and solo] theatrical performances. The Council then proceeded to claim that it was "putting drama into the community", and everyone would benefit since so many more people would "see drama". Does this ring any bells, please? |
