| Referring to the Hime:Grimston exchange two things strike me. The first is the rather enviable innocence (or is it guile) revealed in the Grimston Gambit, which goes like this: the first motivation was saving money but then we (Wandsworth Tories that is) decided we might lose that argument so we are now saving £400,000 p.a. and losing a dozen expert staff but there will be a better service anyway! The second is the public admission that he (Grimston) would have liked more time to get this right and it was all a bit hurried. I'll say, but if that is true then why not do what all the amenity societies are saying and defer actual closure for a year so that the actual details of the better service can be worked out. After all as I have proved, see Director of Finance's answer to Q16 at the Council last week, the Council can afford it. The truth is that the improved service line is a complete straw and saving money to the extent of not putting up Council Tax, even in line with inflation, is the prime, the sole, the total motivation. |
