| I'm a member of WRWA, I just did not (and do not) understand your point. One of the areas of our operation which will almost certainly become more expensive over the future years (and for which we must find the resources from somewhere) is waste disposal and recycling, for several reasons. Landfill is becoming more expensive, both intrinsically and because of LATS (the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme). It gets progressively more expensive to recycle, as more effort has to be put in to persuade the more reluctant to use orange sacks for example. Incineration is both cheaper and more environmentally attractive than landfill will be but not necessarily than what it is now. I have to say that I am personally delighted that all political parties are beginning to take the environment more seriously but as something goes up lists of priorities then inevitably other things have to come down. We will publish the proposals as soon as possible. Policy emerges as a result of a number of discussions within the council, and many people (e.g. staff at potentially affected locations) need to hear the news before it is made public. Going too early may result first in time being wasted discussing proposals which are impractical anyway and secondly may cause unnecessary concern to some who would have been affected by proposals which are not pursued. You make the point yourself - some calculations and considerations are inescapably complex (not just economically but making sure we have considered all the implications as far as we can) and it serves nobody to start discussing them in detail before that detail is available. |
