| Absolutely right Adrian. There must be valuations completed on the Courthouse, West Hill and Alvering, if the intention is to use the money from the sale of the latter 2 sites to pay for the new library. The other points to consider are: a) the Courthouse is a Grade II listed building therefore the plans will need government/English Heritage approval for any alterations required. b) where is the feasability study and detailed plans and figures for the budget of £1.2 million needed to convert the building into a 21st century library? All that has been shown to us is a scrappy artist's impression of one room in the 'library' with people looking at books.....At what stage do the council intend to put in their detailed planning application? If they are serious about the change of use of the building from a musum into a library then these plans should be available before the proposal to close the Museum is approved by councillors. c) the issue of the 10,000 artefacts is brushed aside with the comment that displays will be in five town centre libraries, therefore more acessible to the community. This is a totally flawed argument as there is no way that 10,000 items can be displayed to their best advantage either to inform the public they are intended for or from a security or conservation aspect. In addition, how can the community undestand the significance of the reduced displays if there is no experienced personnel to explain it? |
