| I was just expressing admiration for John Ager's suggestion of applying for lottery money, and his ideas, when the part completed reply disappeared. I wanted to suggest that on condition of planning consent a developer - such as the new Riverside Development - could be asked to provide several floors of a new development to a state-of-the-art-museum, with acoustic dioramas of Wandsworth's history especially of the river, and later railway. A franchised quality-on-site cafe and a museum shop would add to the attraction. Benefactors and their donations could be attributed to specific rooms and exhibits. There could be an archival room, together with free access to Ancestry.com so that people can carry out research, plus and on-line library of all available historical photographs of the area. Copies of the photos can be purchased. The museum in my home town [not as big as Wandsworth] has such facilties; the list could go on an on. The people of Wandsworth deserve a large and up-to-date museum. I think our museum is good but how much better it could be given a large riverside setting with up to date facilties. |
