"On the face of it, Johnson's suggested move is good" Yes, although many years late and with the explicit aim of not being held responsible for anything which might remotely smack of ordering motorists about, as he's scared of his public image being damaged in the tabloids. There's a similar refusal to consider the obvious, necessary step of bringing in road pricing - how many reports of Boris's bonkers tunnel idea picked up that it would be tolled? Also it doesn't matter how many diesels you own if you don't drive them, and in London the differential between public transport fares and fuel costs is closing because Boris (and Osborne) keep yelling about freezing fuel duty while hiking up fares. Until that changes I'm filing this under 'all talk, not action'. |
