Roland, you are right. There was little enthusiasm by anyone for a bus depot over the station. Not TfL, not the bus operators, not Network Rail, not SWT, not the Council. And the Putney Society has never advocated it either as far as I know. My personal view is that this would not solve anything anyway - the pollution would just have moved a couple of streets along and the number of buses would be unchanged. Given the different parties involved no assumption could be made that the sale of the current garage could have funded the new depot. What I think would be beneficial, and may yet happen if all the parties agree to it, is a second entrance to the main line station on Oxford Road, or possibly somewhere along Upper Richmond Road. That would make the connection with East Putney tube much easier. The Council is keen on this and some CIL money from URR developments might pay for it. |
