Thanks for the research Thomas. I am sure many of us didn't know the vehicle finder website existed. To be fair, 80% of the air pollution on the High Street was found to be from buses. I believe there are calculations that show the emissions produced in making a vehicle usually exceed the emissions during its lifespan. Other PSVs, commercial vehicles, cars, motorbikes etc. are therefore only likely to be replaced through obsolescence/redundancy. The tax system is already used to apply penalties to high emission vehicles. Raising those penalties will effect the owners of used vehicles who tend to have less financial resource than the original buyer and is therefore said to be inequitable. It appears to be an intractable problem. Do you know if TfL are modifying their bus operator contracts to require operators to only use low emission vehicles? |
