"The exact survey results were than 10% of traffic comprised buses and they produced 68% of NOx emissions." There you go. Also two other things: 1) buses on their own don't produce unacceptable levels of NOx, buses stuck in congestion with their engines running do 2) I bet they carried far more than 10% of the people conveyed down the street It's completely misleading to judge a 12 tonne bus with a capacity of 87 by the same standards as a 2 tonne car with a capacity of 5. That March 2013 date is very interesting - that would imply one of the following: 1) TfL and the bus operators haven't managed to upgrade the legacy Euro III fleet in time, and they're still over-contributing to pollution 2) TfL and the bus operators have managed to upgrade the legacy Euro III fleet in time and it wasn't the buses in the first place So either the original pollution survey conclusion were wrong or the council and TfL are lying about the upgraded buses being in place by 3/2013. I'd love to know which. Has anyone FoI'd yet? A list of all older bus registrations given emissions treatment would be a start, as we can track which routes they're used on via LVF. |
