The only thing missing from this article is a reference to Putney High Street. It also shows that inaction at Mayoral level just reflects government policy. It all stinks, almost literally. If these were road deaths people would rightly be up in arms, but because we can't actually see the pollution (except from high ground) and don't see people collapsing in the streets, it somehow seems less tangible as one of our major health problems - worse than obesity, worse than alcohol abuse and far worse than traffic accidents. The costs to the NHS just don't bear thinking about. Needs a major change of mind set in DEFRA. |
