Jonathan, excuse me for contradicting you. There may be many theories, but practice makes perfect. The timing of the traffic lights is appalling. A similar experiment was placed on the Albert Embankment / Lambeth Bridge roundabout. The traffic chaos was such, that the police went out to manage it and after two days it was reverted to its original sequence. You may have as many sequences as you like, my point is that, if you do not keep traffic moving, the levels of pollution are enormous. In my experience of driving over Putney Bridge is that only in school holidays you MAY, and only MAY, drive from one end of PHS to the other once the first light has turned green. It does not happen!! It all falls down when traffic volumes swamp the road??? If that is what we experience most of the time, then the theory is completely wrong! Buses and delivery vehicles area big part of the problem. Indeed they are. Solution? No deliveries after 7.00am during school times and none before 7.00pm. There may be some correspondence on the website, but please, experience, even if on lay man's terms, is priceless. Traffic lights that take so long that you can paint your finger nails while waiting should be an inkling. |
