It's an interesting question as to what is meant by diesel vehicles meeting the Euro 6 emissions standard. It could mean, as with previous Euro standards, the manufacturers tune the car to pass a standard on a rig in the laboratory. Or it could mean that the cars on the road meet a standard for emissions as determined by real-world testing. The two are not the same and the issue is the cause of a lot of the current problem. As I understand it there were only a few Euro 6 vehicles caught by the most recent campaigns of real-world testing. The good news was that they were a lot better than Euro 5. The bad news was they didn't meet the expected standards. |
