My comments were not aimed at you personally Jonathan however; I do not accept that we are a car-centred society. That may be the case in rural areas where there is no alternative but not in the city where there are options. Many tens of thousands live in rural areas and commute into London to work. That is often an economic choice as much as a choice of convenience. The so called "low emission" and hybrid buses may be seen as a step in the right direction by some but are simply a cheaper alternative than the right investment. As you know, I have been advocating fuel cell and hydrogen fuelled buses for some time since zero harmful emmissions is the only sustainable solution that will resolve the problem. Green infrastructure, green roofs, green walls, price controls and increased taxes are all forms of fixes that may have a role to play but until politicians bite the bullet and instigate a radical change of policy, we will be stuck with paying to treat the symptoms rather than paying for the cure. |
