The chat today regarding the European Court of Justice case on the UK not meeting air quality limits and the associated publication by Defra of revised dates by which they expect various regions to be compliant has included mention of a recent presentation where some headline results on the Putney vehicle monitoring appeared : http://www.londonair.org.uk/london/asp/LAQNSeminar/pdf/June2014/David_Carslaw_Recent_findings_from_comprehensive_vehicle_emission_remote_sensing_measurements.pdf Slides 12-15 deal with the TfL retrofitted buses and appear to show a dramatic reduction on average NOx and NO2 compared with the unconverted buses. However there are mentions that sometimes the retrofitted buses behave like the old ones (? when the inlet temperature of the exhaust gases is low?). Hopefully the full report will appear soon to explain the findings and point the way to further improvements. |
