Recent developments include the allocations of bids from the Mayors Air Quality Fund to boroughs and partnerships and a large release of information on air quality modelling data to the Campaign for Clean Air in London. According to the TfL press release on the impacts in south London http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/28138.aspx Wandsworth has been awarded £100K for "Wandsworth A model to improve London's air: A holistic approach delivered at a local level Education 100,000 Project to further progress the work being undertaken to improve air quality in Putney High Street and to build upon its successes using the 'Putney Model' elsewhere in the borough" I am not certain quite what this means ! The release also says funded projects include: "A schools campaign across south London boroughs by the South London Air Quality Cluster group which includes Richmond upon Thames, Kingston upon Thames, Merton, Lewisham, Wandsworth and Croydon. The group will be providing documentation and training to enable the boroughs to successfully support the freight industry to achieve air quality improvements " and further details are South London Air Quality Cluster Schools campaign across south London boroughs Education 40,000 To raise awareness of air quality among school children, to reduce the exposure of children to poor air quality and to improve air quality through a reduction in vehicle idling and modal shift to sustainable modes of travel South London Air Quality Cluster Dissemination of Construction Logistics Plans to the South London Air Quality Cluster Group including Richmond and Kingston Freight, business engagement 70,000 To disseminate the application of Construction Logistic Plans used in Croydon to neighbouring boroughs. This will include the provision of all documentation and training to enable each borough to successfully apply the scheme to achieve air quality improvements And there is also a big award going to a combined project : Camden, Islington, Lambeth, Lewisham, Wandsworth and Hammersmith & Fulham Integrated local air quality improvements at construction and industrial sites Cleaner fuels, business engagement 400,000 Project to encourage the construction sector to adopt measures to improve air quality, including a programme of air quality initiatives targeted at major construction and industrial sites and a central hub for the exchange of best practice, measurement data and emissions abatement procedures ------------------------------------------------------- The Campaign for Clean Air in London story is at http://cleanairinlondon.org/sources/carcinogenic-diesel-exhaust-disclosed-for-every-significant-road-in-london/ and is based on detailed information from the London Atmospheric Emission Inventory model. Emission estimates are provided for thousands of road links - Putney High Street seems to be composed of 13 separate stretches. The PHS link with the highest NO2 emissions per kilometre (actual location is not clear) appears as link 327 (of the 41,713 links in the list)and the LAEI gives the source contributions (figures as total tonnes of NO2 per year per kilometre of road) Diesel car 1.845 LT Bus 1.617 Diesel LGV 0.629 Rigid lorry 0.343 Coach 0.319 Taxi 0.252 Petrol car 0.042 Artic lorry 0.021 |
