I wouldn't put too much faith in past Euro standards for diesel vehicles. The message from the 2013 remote sensing trials was that real world on-road performance for NO2 was very different to that expected from manufacturer's testing and many vehicles classes showed little improvement over 20 years. (And this is the cause of our current problems as we spent a decade assuming that improved technology would solve our exceedances without paying much attention to the monitoring that showed we weren't getting better.) The January 2013 Progress Report on the 2011/2012 Air Quality Grant to Wandsworth talked about monitoring of the new buses in Putney High Street being complete in April 2013, analysis being done by July 2013 with a final report in September 2013 and "associated knowledge transfer activities" being carried out in the second half of 2013. [The Wandsworth report is file .....34844.pdf in the zipped release at https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/air_quality_grant_201112_progres#comment-40761 ] The only thing I have seen from remote sensing done in 2013 so far is a tweet from James Tate at Leeds "Only 18 Euro6 cars in @ITSLeeds vehicle emission measurements 2013. They do emit less NOx when new but > legislated levels #airquality " which might indicate again that the latest car standard does not meet the hoped for improvements. So, we're still waiting for proper info on bus developments..... |
