Nick you sound so reasonable. I am sure I heard the statement made that the tunnel would be emptied about 4 times a year at one of the main meetings and it was said by the TW publicity man through a microphone. Part of the problem is that you have seen what the other options were that were examined and discarded, we have not. Further, sometimes an option can be discarded by those then making decisions when if it were currently on the table it could be looked at afresh by new officials and government and a different conclusion could be reached. Maybe that is what should happen now. It seems that DEFRA gave the go ahead for reasons of compliance which may have been reactive rather than well thought out. The victorian sewage infrastructure is past its sell by date as are the victorian houses a lot of us live in; the remedy is renovate hence the number of skips. The same goes for the sewage system. Surely some sort of separate drainage could be constructed to take away surface water, now that would be a permanent solution to bequeath to our inheritors that would not lose its value in a few years time. Because what we are all skirting around is that no matter the massive cost time and pricewise it is still not a proper solution. Nicks remarks on incorporating the Mogden works causing river levels to fall was interesting. Putney residents do feel short changed to hear they will still be suffereing from river sewage despite hosting a pongy ventilation shaft for ever and massive disruption for a decade - you must admit they have a point! |
