This situation looks dire! The clip shows imho lots of waffle by the Mayor. It leaves me with impression that using barges taking spoils off and bring building materials to the site will be very difficult. Johnson clearly doesn't want to be committed to a pledge to use barges, probably because - as was suggested by the councilor - that the Thames is too tidal and too narrow at low tide to make it work in cost efficient manner. The Mayor's insistence that the Tunnel is good for London, cleaning up river and, yes, creating 4000 jobs says it all. This is a political must happen project, never mind the cost of £3,500,000,000.- (that is £3.5billion) which is nearly £1 million per job or £400.- per Londoner (all 9million of them). At least our Wandsworth and Richmaond representing councilors seem to be addressing the issues of Putney and Barnes residents. Let's hope they keep focused on this case. |
