Just a note to say that navigation West of Hammersmith Bridge is not a problem for barges and tugs; there is adequate clearance. The fact remains that separation of storm water from foul sewage is the best long term option. It would negate the purpose of this scheme and significantly reduce volumes requiring treatment. It should be a priority for TW to publish estimates for the Whole of Life costs of the proposed tunnel (stating assumptions made) and for all of the other options before this consultation goes one step further. The case for this "super sewer" (as a partial solution to the problem) has not yet been made. I do not see how this project can be described as National Infrastructure (with attendant compulsory purchase powers) when it is specific to a locality and the responsibility of a plc. Does anyone know of similar scheme in other UK cities having qualified as such with the nation paying for it; at least in part? |
