The truth is out! Here is an email from Thames Water and my reply. Read their email at the bottom first. Dear Mr Wood, Thanks for your reply. I'm worried as you have severely contradicted yourself. You initially state, " our studies to date indicate that we could use river transport for the removal of excavated material from the Barn Elms playing fields site." Later in your reply you state, "As a result, we recognise there could be limitations on what could be achieved by river without compromising safety or significantly affecting existing river use by others." Mr. Wood, I put it to you that Thames Water has absolutely no intention of building a jetty, and for cost and efficiency reasons, you are planning to use our local roads for all contruction and waste material removal for 7 years. This is unacceptable, and in the first instance you are duty bound to come clean on this issue so local people will really know what chaos and horror is planned. I await your urgent response as this issue needs to be highlighted your initial public consultation Thank you, T.J.Wright (Mr) ps your assesment that Hammersmith works would not be possible due to navigational issues is absolute rubbish. THE WHARVES EXIST. I have historic photos of plenty of commercial barges using this part of the river. Barn Elms has never had a wharf. Why not? Because it isn't possible to build one there! --- On Tue, 5/10/10, customer.feedback@thameswater.co.uk From: customer.feedback@thameswater.co.uk Subject: 688991 - Thamewater Tunnel Date: Tuesday, 5 October, 2010, 10:47 Thames Water Customer Relations Customer Services P.O. Since publishing a range of dates for the consultation we have added two further dates at The Wetlands Centre, Queen Elizabeth Walk, Barnes on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 October from 10am until 8pm. We will be advertising these events in the local papers and at the venue and look forward to seeing you there. In response to your questions regarding river transport our studies to date indicate that we could use river transport for the removal of excavated material from the Barn Elms playing fields site. As you can expect we will be undertaking further detailed studies and ongoing engagement will be required to help us develop our proposals. Again as part of the consultation process we will be seeking the views of the river users groups, including the organisers of the boat race to develop the design for our proposed site. We are also consulting and working closely with the PLA to ensure navigational safety and use of the rivers by other users is not significantly compromised. We appreciate that recreational river use is very significant upstream of Putney Bridge and also the depth and width of the navigational channel is restricted compared with other parts of the river. As a result, we recognise there could be limitations on what could be achieved by river without compromising safety or significantly affecting existing river use by others. For the short-listed sites located close to Hammersmith Bridge, our assessments indicate that the navigational capacity of the river would be insufficient to provide a practical solution for the removal of excavated material from a main tunnel drive. Excavated material arising from shaft or connection tunnel construction is less that that for the main tunnel construction and it may be possible to use the river at Hammersmith for these operations, and again this will need to be investigated further. I hope this information is helpful and our team will be on hand at the exhibitions to help with any further questions. Kind regards Mark Wood Customer Relations |
