The main point here is whether we are being railroaded. I would have thought that if the site in Barn Elms is deemed suitable, then it would be just as suitable if it was sited on the same patch of land but further away from the flats. That's if this is in fact the best site anyway. They plan to transport a lot of the spoil via the river via a new jetty/wharf which will reduce the amount of large trucks I would have thought. Regarding noise, I'm not defending them but once the shaft has reached a reasonable depth apart from the crane(s) noise will be below ground level and as the ground will be sand/gravel and most likely wet, there will probably be little dust. It's quite a small site. What isn't very clear is whether the large jetty will remain after the work is complete. On the maps this projects almost half way into the river. What do you understand to be the favoured site? The Barn Elms site and the one next to the bridge are both first choices as far as their literature is concerned. |
