Hi Adam, I think that the costs eventually may exceed £4 billion. The recent efra select commitee inquiry stated that the solution would be for three score years and ten, much less than the originally quoted 100 years, so TW customers will be paying a great deal for this solution, but the evidence presented maintained the cost was to be £3.6billion. The problem is, The Secretary of State has already approved the go ahead for the project in the current scope and scale STS have responded to the Waste Water National Policy Statement (of which the Thames Tunnel is a key part) and included the point that the Secretary of State's decision for such a major project has not been subject to an appropriate level of public scrutiny. I think if you or anyone else on this thread is against the overall solution proposed (and I have to say my personal feeling is the current scope of the project in its entirety is questionable in terms of cost/benefit in addressing all of the CSO sites with the same approach) then you can write a letter/email to Caroline Spelman: caroline@carolinespelman.com Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Defra Nobel House 17 Smith Square London SW1P 3JR or at the house of commons: Rt Hon Caroline Spelman MP House of Commons London SW1A 0AA However, I think that with so many people backing it, it's unlikely to get pulled or changed in scope, it's now simply a case of which sites are chosen for construction. |
