Roland. What I recall TW saying when they were asked about separation of water and sewage was that it would involve a complete redoing of all of London's sewers and that this would be much more expensive, disruptive and costly than the Tunnel itself. I am afraid that I am not technical enough to know if this argument stands up or if there is another way. However at the meeting last night a great deal was said about "back to basics" - ie. rethinking the whole thing and I think that Justine listened and noted. Incidentally it strikes me that this sort of confrontation must be going on all the way down the Thames as, the density of population in London being as it is,it must be very difficult to find a site, green or brown, which has minimum impact on the local community. The preferred site for a drive-shaft in Rotherhithe for example is Kings Stairs Park, a popular small riverside Park surrounded by flats in a deprived neighbourhood. |
