I visited the exhibition this morning. It was high on generalities but extremely low on detail. No mention was made until I pressed the point of the works being undertaken to the Mogden works which when completed will reduce considerably the problems in south-west London. That said the replacement sewers are necessary and will inevitably lead to disruption whilst under construction. The question is how much disruption? When I asked questions this morning about vehicle movements, access to the Putney Bridge site (which will inevitably result in changing the one-way system east of the Duke's Head), closure of the tow-path at Barn Elms, incursions into the river and a host of other specifics it quickly became clear that these had either not been considered or were being ignored as inconvenient at this stage. The devil will be in the detail and nowhere would the detail appear to have been discussed, or if it has the outcome published. I for one will be demanding far more transparency at as early as possible a date. It will be far too late to start discussing the above points, and many like them, once the sites have been identified and 'approved,' Thames Water will clearly want to carry out this work as cheaply as possible. Whilst objectively this is commendable subjectively it should not be at the expense of the local population. I strongly suggest that you visit the exhibition, listen to what is said, think beyond the spin, ask probing questions and make any misgivings you may have clear in your written response.
