Jenny With regard to the channel, the deep water or "fairway" on Putney reach (i.e. between Hammersmith Bridge and Putney Bridge) is generally toward the southern side. It's best seen at low tide: in a number of places there are sand, mud and gravel banks which stretch a long way out from the northern shore (notably by Hammersmith Bridge and by Fulham football ground - the so-called "Fulham flats"). This map illustrates the deep water channel and the shallow areas quite well: http://www.pla.co.uk/pdfs/maritime/Rowing_Chart_270906.pdf |
