Here's what you can do: Attend either the Public Exhibition in Putney Exchange (Thur 7 Oct to Sat 9 Oct) or Southside Wandsworth (30th Seopt to 2 Oct) and ask the Thames Water executives the following questions regarding the proposed Barn Elms main tunnelling site: 1) Get them to confirm that the most important criteria in choosing a site is "availability of Jetty / Wharf facilities" (as detailed in their published project papers) 2) Ask them to confirm that they have carried out a full engineering assesment of the feasibility of building a new wharf adjacent to Barn Elms, with special emphasis on the potential to block the only navigable channel at low tide. 3)Ask if thy have they obtained permissions from the Port of London Authority to build such a structure. 4) Ask if they have they taken into consideration the extreme danger a working wharf would pose in such close proximity to the rowing clubs and rowers including school rowers. 5) Ask if they have they taken into consideration the fact that access to a new wharf from the land side would block and close the tow path to the general public (for 7 years) 6) Query why they are not persuing the original choice of Hammersmith where there are existing Wharves available. Perhaps suggest that the pressure by Hammersmith and Fulham Council could have affect their decision to choose Barn Elms. 6) And finally suggest to them that they know full well that the construction of a new wharf adjacent to Barn Elms is unfeasible and all the time they are intending to use the local road network for the transport of construction materials and removal of waste. Perhaps the fact that road transport is signifantly cheaper and they put that ahead of the massive local impact of a huge number of construction lorries blighting Putney for 7 years may be the real truth? |
