Looking at the thread on the Chiswick? site one of the sister to this sites, as regards living near the Mogdon improvement works as they are carried out by Thames Water contractors (Nick Tennant explains what TW seek to acheive), they are all up in arms at the cavalier way they get treated. Whether one accepts the need for the "tunnel" to go ahead in its present form or not the reality of being trapped inside what will amount to a TW work site night and day, whichever end of the Embankment you are unfortunate enough to live is not what anyone would want - lets leave the Nimby comments alone please. Its interesting that those who make them never turn out to live within 2 miles of the site in question. Nuff said. As for the cost it is rising exponentially. It is going to be too great a burden, an ill thought out scheme at the wrong time with too few budgetary constraints. MOre questions should have been asked before it was approved by the last government whose priorities were suspect and whose grasp of detail lax in the extreme. It needs rethinking and it needs an allocated budget. |
