The vent pipes are a long term legacy to be very concerned about and not to be underestimated. Who wants the permanent whiff of millions of gallons of raw sewage wafting over Putney, even if TW were to install odour balancing equipment? Though of some importance, how the pipes are disguised has to be considered of secondary importance. I believe a new EU directive is placing a responsibility on the UK to produce methane gas from sewage. How does this scheme fit with that directive? I too think we should be looking at why TW have shifted from their original prefered site at Hammersmith to this side of the river and pick apart their reasoning to change that preference. A problem (as Bunny found), appears to be in extracting this information from TW. If not available online, it may be possible to obtain a copy of the original submission from the Environment Agency who are responsible for much of this project. Why did TW prefer Hammersmith? Which aspects of the project have changed and forced them to change their minds? Together with Horne Lane area residents, young people who use the sports facilities, river and tow path users, there is no doubt that the viability of the Wetlands site would be severely affected by the current proposals. I can see no significant mitigation of those effects. |
