Bernard, if you visit the Facebook site you can see that, at the last count maybe a week ago we had around 1400. The estimation a couple of days ago is around 2000 signatures so far. Thames Water only sent letters to 4000 residents, taking this into account, I believe that 2000 is a significant number of people opposed, this number will keep rising as long as we are active and could be argued to be at least 25% of the people TW made aware of the plans via their mail-drop. As far as we are aware, no-one but the The Infrastructure Planning Commission which is the independent body that examines applications for nationally significant infrastructure projects can decide on whether this can go ahead or not. WBC have no say in the use of the land and it can be subject to a CPO. The site is also earmarked for development for sporting facilities (permission granted recently by RBC), which we are yet to confirm precludes the construction (but from a PR perspective, it would not be a positive message that local families and children would be losing their playing fields) Lets hope that the England 2018 World Cup bid is successful to put some weight behind the need for this kind of resource to be in place over the coming years. I believe a significant number of voices of opposition would have to go some way to pressurising TW to place the site in a more appropriate place. It is our role and I believe WBC's role to work to find a suitable alternative and subject TW site evaluations and arguments to a forensic level of scrutiny. Our group members are all volunteering personal time & money for this - most of us are working parents, spending a significant amount of spare time actively trying to do something about the plan and working until late into the day. Now is it your view we should just give up because we only have 2k signatures in less that a month, or would you like to roll your sleeves up and offer some support? |
