Here it is 428/10 19/11/10 Thames Tunnel consultation criticised Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Virginia Morris , has criticised Thames Water’s consultation into its Thames Tunnel project for a ‘super sewer’ running underneath London which would affect the Barn Elms sports fields. Cllr Morris said: “We recognise the potential benefits of the Thames Tunnel project; no-one wants to see rivers of sewage flowing through the capital. However, Thames Water has thus far totally failed to make the case for the Barn Elms site or the disruption it would cause. “Thames Water’s consultation has been inept in the extreme; they need to engage fully with the local community to gain support if they are going to begin to make the case for Barn Elms.” Thames Water says it needs a ‘work site’ in the Barn Elms area to construct the main tunnel. It is currently proposing to use the southern part of the Barn Elms Sports Centre playing fields for this construction work and to accommodate the permanent structures required to operate the tunnel. Ends Notes to editors The Council’s Cabinet will discuss the Thames Tunnel at its next meeting on 6 December.
