I don't know the legalities of her position. It would seem strange if she can't express an opinion on such an issue. I'd be surprised. Thinking about other projects that I can recall being 'called in', I'm sure the local MPs, even government members, have expressed a view. I understood that if planning matters were called in they were not subject to political review, so I don't see the issue. Regardless, she absolutely can express a view: she doesn't have to be a member of the government. Given the strength of feeling expressed on here, and given that this issue is only going to grow and grow in the coming years, if she chooses not to express a view, the option to be a government minister may be taken out of her hands in May 2015. |
