| Exactly, that seems to be a complaint about the license extension (i.e. to allow drinks to be consumed off-premises) rather than the benches. (Hint: the benches aren't present in the photo and haven't been for 6+ months, and there's some irony of drinks/litter being left by a bench that WPCC was responsible for providing.) People drinking outside should be given plastic glasses, and the staff are usually good at this, but some people will always try and get normal glasses and take them outside, and those will get broken occasionally. Again, not the fault of the (non-existent) benches. The pub doesn't serve lager in cans so all those Fosters and Stella cans have been people bringing their own and then not cleaning up after themselves (or dumping them by the pubs bins). Hardly the fault of the pub (more likely the local shops), same with the random shopping litter, take away pizza boxes, bottles of coke, etc. Of course, with the bench agreement in place the pub will be doing more to keep that part of the common clean. From the angle of the shadows I'd say these photos were taken in the morning probably before the pub staff had been out to clean up. It's hard to do a proper clean up at/after closing time as it is so dark but they could probably try a bit harder. What about some photos taken later on in the day? Did it all get cleaned up? As for the grass, it grows back. Maybe not straight away but it will if the benches never returned. And, you know, maybe the WPCC could use some of its income from the benches to help this along. |
