| Nick, am pleased that the absurd and vicious insults made by A Pike will not deter you. Am hoping that this is the case with John too, who has had to endure his revolting little jibes for what seems like years. I saw dozens of people on that part of the common yesterday who seemed to be quite comfortable lounging about, lying on the grass. I was one of them. Unlike Bunny Payne however, I saw nobody swooning or staggering back in shock and dismay at the lack of benches and tables. That's not to say there wasn't palpable sadness and mortification - just that I didn't witness it, during my three hours there with friends and neighbours. But she needn't worry - the benches will no doubt be back soon and the WPCC will get their rent. Being broke, they do of course need to do whatever it takes to get money, regardless of the 1871 Act (which prohibits any commercialisation of any part of the common). |
