| I thought this came up before. The cricket club pre-dates the 1871 Act and I think someone said that funfairs used to run on the common before 1871, so both have precedents which I guess the 1871 Act has to take into account. http://www.putneycricketclub.com/history/inthebeginning.cshtml " In the Beginning Our club was founded in 1870. It was originally called St Johns as it was established by the choir of that church. The club was allotted a ground on the Lower Common, not far from the current location. Etherington CC, The Early Closing Association CC (playing Thursdays only!) and St Marys CC were other clubs playing on the Common at that time. " |
