Olly Robbins friends are now saying that he was prevented by law from revealing to the PM that Peter Mandelsom had failed his security vetting. And it appears that the Cabinet Secretary is also rying to invoke the same excuse to explain why she didn't inform the PM when she found out two weeks ago about the decision to overrule the vetting committee's decision.

I simply don't believe that there is a law preventing civil servants from telling the Prime Minister the truth about a matter on which he has made an incorrect statement to Parliament.

There are several questions that need to be answered:

1) Why did Keir Starmer announce Mandelson's appointment before vetting had taken place?

2) Why didn't Starmer, once the details of Mandelson's relationship with Epstein came out, enquire why the security services had apparently failed to find out this information? He would then have discovered that Mandelson had in fact  failed his vetting. He would also have discovered that the decision had been overruled by the Foreign Office.

3) On what basis did Olly Robbins overrule the vetting committee? Why did he not inform Starmer about this. Did he really think it was his job to allow Starmer to mislead Parliament?
