In my opinion there is no way that Robbins would have taken it upon himself to in effect endorse Mandelson for the post whilst knowing that PM hadn’t passed security vetting.  Robbins has had a long political career and held important positions under 4 different PMs and knows the protocols inside out. Obviously he wouldn’t have told every Minister the details but it is not possible to believe that Starmer was not informed.   In my opinion Starmer deliberately overlooked all the negatives and was content to let Mandelson deal with Trump.
