The issue of free speech probably deserves a separate thread. As a general rule people tend to be in favour of free speech when they agree with what is being said and express doubts about free speech when they disagree.

Personally I am reluctant to curtail free speech, though clearly some limits are necessary. For example, you are not allowed to incite violence or cry 'fire' in a crowded cinema. The problem comes with political statements which some people find offensive and others agree with. For example, I find the chant 'From the river to the sea' offensive and provocative. But I don't think the anti-Semites who chant this stuff should be arrested unless they do it in Jewish areas or their demonstrations are likely to cause a breach of the peace, though I accept that many Jewish people were afraid to go into central London during the pro-Palestinian marches. It's a difficult balance to strike. I agree with Robert that if people really feel the need to express hateful views, they should do so at Hyde Park Corner.
