| Having been the only non-Tory on WBC's various remuneration committees for several years let me let you into a secret, though you wont get me to be precise about individual salaries,:- 1. The Tories are in no way embarrassed about their top people's pay indeed they boast about paying in the top quartile, which as you know is a rather different attitude to the one about getting the lowest possible bids for home helps. 2. Right or wrong, they clearly believe that there is a lasting relationship between top pay and top performance for senior officers even if for some bizarre reason I have never understood they believe the opposite is true for home helps. |
