We have had this debate before but to answer your last paragraph. Public sector is just that - public from tax payers funds, secure jobs with generally very good pensions not linked to the stock exchange. In private sector jobs failure to deliver has severe consequences. In addition private sector pensions are linked to the ups and downs of the stock market. In the public sector there seems to be examples of failure in one job being followed by appointment to the same role in another authority. It appears to the public as a merry-go-round for senior public sector staff. Nothing changes because the culture doesn't want change. This is why high public salaries are such a headline catcher. Admitedly you can get gross incompetence in all fields and I doubt the public sector is exempt from that. However, my sincere thanks for your response Councillor Belton and thank you for opposing high bonuses for senior staff. Now all we need is a cross party consensus to agree to lower all senior staff pay! |
